Ruth Claxton
Nottingham Contemporary
The Small Collections Room
Postcards
Something which I have never seen before made for such an intimate viewing experience. The work of Ruth Claxton was shown here in the Nottingham Contemporary’s small collections rooms. It seemed fit to show the postcards in such a small intimate place as they are small pieces of history. However we are forced to re-consider them and their context through this presentation allowing for a modern reading to be made.
Small draws were filled with pieces of work, this came hand in hand with the curiosity that the artists themselves were poking at. I love how something obscure has been for used to contradict its original uses. This really does show the effectiveness that clever curating can achieve.
